My prayer life as a new Christian
When I accepted Christ as my Lord and savior, I believed prayer had to sound fancy or formal.
I admired people who could pray effortlessly, weaving together beautiful words that sounded powerful and confident. Meanwhile, I often found myself sitting quiet in my pew at church, not volunteering to pray because I was shy and thought my vocal prayers sounded stilted.
Then life happened.
Throughout my teenage years and early adulthood, I had seasons of uncertainty, unexpected disappointments, unanswered questions, and Emotional pain that I couldn’t understand or explain. Those were the times when the only prayer I could manage was, “Lord, help me.” I even had times when all I wanted to do is throw my hands in the air and say “Jesus take the Wheel, because I can’t do this anymore.”
God made me into a new person
Looking back, I understand that Those weren’t my weakest prayers. The god help me and Jesus take the wheel’ prayers were some of my most honest ones.
“Delving into God’s Word
As I studied the Bible through Braille, and the new testament on cassette, I found comfort in the stories of ordinary people who brought every emotion before God.
David praised God one day and cried out in anguish the next.
Hannah wept as she poured out her heart in prayer.
Jesus sought quiet places to spend time with His Father before facing some of life’s greatest challenges.
None of them prayed because they had perfect lives. They prayed because they needed God.
That truth transformed my understanding of prayer.
Prayer changed my life
Prayer isn’t a performance or about using impressive words. Prayer isn’t measured by its length or eloquence.
Prayer is communion with God and choosing to come before Him with whatever season you’re in. Prayer is trusting that He hears every word and understands every unspoken thought.
The Power of Prayer meets Divine Inspiration
My prayer journey inspired me to write Praying Through the Seasons: Seven Aspects of Prayer and Communion with God. This devotional isn’t about teaching readers how to pray in a fancy or formal way. Instead, it’s about encouraging readers to pray more honestly, more consistently, and with greater confidence in God’s love. Through biblical examples, personal reflections, journal prompts, and creative challenges, my prayer is that readers will discover a richer relationship with God—one conversation at a time—Because every season of life offers an invitation to draw closer to Him.
Encouraging words
Maybe today you’re celebrating answered prayers, waiting for an answer to your most heartfelt prayers, grieving the loss of a loved one Or you don’t have the words to speak out loud. Wherever you find yourself, let me give you a bit of encouragement. God is not waiting for polished words. He’s waiting for you to pour out your heart to Him. Come just as you are, for He already knows your heart.
Reflection Question:
What season are you walking through right now, and what is one honest prayer you can offer God today?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Let’s encourage one another as we learn to pray through every season together.
