A Nostalgic Feeling that lets me know Fall is in the Air

Hello everyone, I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted, but I’ve had a crazy busy couple of weeks.

Do you ever have those days when you feel nostalgic for a time when you were younger? If you have, it can be a good feeling, bringing back memories you long to relive over and over again.

Today is one of those days for me. As a matter of fact, I felt that way last night after choir practice, because we were going over the songs for our Christmas program and this practice session brought back memories of Christmases past. However, today I was thinking back to my school days. Not the time when I was already in the throws of the busy school day schedule, but the time when school started for me. Now my daughter is in school, and sometimes when school starts, I feel like I am the one who is making that two-hour drive to school for my first day. At least that’s the way I felt after she started Pre-k. Today I’m thinking about heading back to school and getting settled into a routine again, meeting up with old friends and making new ones.

This is a sure sign that Fall is in the air for me. Even though Fall hasn’t actually started yet, there is a slight shift in the atmosphere, like Autumn is hanging in the balance. It’s af though the world is waiting for the temperatures to start dropping and each day to start getting a little shorter, until the Winter solstice in December. Even though it’s hot outside and the AC is blowing cool air into my house, I get this laid-back comfortable feeling, where all I want to do is sit back and read a good book. The air feels different, and I can picture the cooler days ahead, where I can sit with the door open and listen to the wind chimes outside on the porch, or sit on the porch in the middle of the day and let the breeze blow through my hair while I sway in the porch swing. This is my favorite time of year, when the temperature is cool, but not too cold, and I can find some good books to read/listen to on either my phone, iPad, or my Echo Dot. This is also a time to write, plan for NaNoWriMo, and start revisions for another book of my own. During the lazy days of summer, I get some writing done, but I don’t do as much as I would when the weather is cooler, and full of inspiration. However, as the seasons change, more ideas come out of the woodwork, so to speak. This is why I am feeling so nostalgic today. I’m ready for the quiet time of year when I can get into my creative zone without all the noise surrounding me.

With that being said, I have a question for each of you out there in the blogosphere. What makes you feel nostalgic? Does this feeling signify the start of autumn for you? Here’s a question for you writers out there, do you feel you get more writing done during this time of the year or do you get a lot done no matter what season you’re in? Please share your thoughts in the comments below. Happy reading and writing, and God bless.

  1. Nostalgia is trips back to England, or the voice of an English friend when we walk her dog. Autumn is dry leaves please, because they were always wet and slimy where I grew up. And writing is chocolate. I feel like I’ve been on a diet with so much to do. Please let me get back to writing before the words fade away.
