Asking in Jesus’s Name: A Deeper Understanding of Prayer

Aligning Our Prayers with God’s Will

Do you ever feel like your prayers aren’t quite being answered the way you expected? Have you ever wondered why some of the things you ask for don’t

come to fruition?

In today’s reflection, I want to dive into one of the most powerful promises Jesus gives us— the ability to ask in His name, but with a deeper understanding of what that truly means.

The Why Behind our Prayers

Jesus said, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do.” It sounds like a simple promise, but there’s more to it than meets the eye. The key isn’t what we ask for, but the why behind our requests. Jesus makes it clear that everything we ask for should be aligned with glorifying the Father. It’s not about asking for a new car or endless wealth, it’s about aligning our hearts and desires with His will.

But how do we ensure our prayers reflect God’s will?

It starts with believing on Jesus, not just believing in Jesus. This subtle but powerful difference can radically transform how we approach God and His will for our lives. When we accept Him as our Savior and Lord, when we invite Him into the very depths of our hearts, our prayers reflect His love, will, and purpose for us.

Biblical Perspective

In Luke 10:27, Jesus reminds us to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This is the foundation upon which all our prayers should be built. Only when we align ourselves with these commandments can we ask for things in His name with confidence.

Journal Reflection Prompt

Reflect on these scriptures and ask yourself: Am I truly asking for things that glorify God? Are my prayers coming from a place of deep relationship with Jesus?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this! Feel free to share your reflections in the comments after you’ve written them down and journaled about them with the Holy Spirit.
