Before I share with you the message that God has laid upon my heart today, Let me share with you the following devotion:
Submission Must Come Before Victory
BIBLE MEDITATION:
“A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.†Proverbs 29:23
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
Have you ever taught someone to drive? What was the first thing you showed him? If you’re like me, even before I showed my children the ignition switch, the accelerator, or the blinker, I showed them the brakes.
Now suppose your learner said, “I don’t want to know anything about the brakes. I just want to know how to make this thing go!†You would probably reply, “You aren’t ready yet to learn to drive! Forget the accelerator. Before you can go, you’ve got to learn to stop.â€
ACTION POINT:
Put this in a spiritual realm. What if I asked you to submit to God and you said, “I’m not interested in submission. I want the victory!†God is not going to pour out His power upon you until He sees in you a spirit of submission.
Now, let’s talk about this devotion. Is there something in your past that turns you away from God or keeps you from trusting him? It can be something as devastating as drug and alcohol abuse, sexual assult, or even mental, emotional, and physical abuse’ or something as basic, yet just as traumatizing as witnessing a tragedy in your life, or in someone else’s life that changed the way you feel about God altogether.
For me, the pivotal moment that brought me to my knees was when I was verbally and emotionally abused by my x-husband and his family. When I came to live with my parents, I asked God to give me strength to face the pain I suffered during the seven and a half years I was married. He used music and other spiritual blessings to helpme face my fears and become a much stronger person. While God was taking my broken and wounded spirit and making me whole again, I had dreams on several occasions of climbing ladders and strange stairways. I believe to this day that I was spiritually and mentally climbing out of the pit of despair during the past five years. Now God has laid a story on my heart that I would like to share with the world.
A Journey of Faith is the first book in a series I am working on entitled The chosen path. In this book, Becca Martin goes rock climbing with her family. While racing up one rocky slope with her older sister Amanda, she witnesses a horrible accident on the stepping stones. At the age of twelve, she didn’t understand what happened, so she runs off the mountain and pushes the memory back into the deepest recesses of her mind. Sixteen years later, after getting her college degree in information technology and landing a job with a major company in Memphis, she feels the urge to go climbing into unknown territory. One of the recurring nightmares she has makes her want to travel down the path that God has chosen for her. Even though she still hears a voice from somewhere deep within her crying “God Help me!” She is afraid of the unknown, yet she prays “God, if you’re still there, I am going to trust you to get me through this journey you hav chosen for me.”
